Tuxedo or Suit?

I get so many questions about what is appropriate attire for the groom in a wedding! I posted this topic when I first started blogging, and it still remains one of the most popular posts in my blog! (See ‘Men’s wedding fashion - tuxedo alternative?’ here.)

So…tuxedo or suit?

Tuxedo

The tuxedo is currently, and will probably always be, the classic attire for the groom and groomsmen. And there’s a very good reason for this! The tuxedo is simple, classic, elegant, and turns even the most casual man into the epitome of sophistication.

If you’re going the tuxedo route, please consider the following tips before committing:

-Please, no cummerbunds! They have become a major fashion ‘don’t’ and should be avoided for weddings. Go with a simple vest, no colors (that’s what boutonnieres are for). Adding a handkerchief is a nice finishing touch.

-Bow ties and long ties are appropriate with a tuxedo, but stick with black, white, silver, or cream. While the bow tie is classic, the long tie adds a touch of modern to the look.

-Make sure to get French Cuffs!

-Skip the tails

Suits

Suits are popular because they can be used for more occasions after the wedding is over. A fine tailored suit is modern, young, and practical for many grooms. As weddings become less stuffy and more unique, suits are definitely making an impression. And, for the budget conscious grooms out there, keep in mind that a nice suit can easily last you a lifetime if it’s properly taken care of!

-If your wedding is less formal, a suit may be the perfect alternative to a tuxedo. A black pinstripe, navy, or even khaki suit can really complement a bridal gown.

DIY - Placecard Holders

While visiting one of my favorite blogs today, I came across an idea that I absolutely adored so I had to post it! This couple used vintage clip-on earrings as placecard holders! These are such a great touch and so easy to find, I think they can add charm and sophistication to almost any wedding! Thank you 100 Layer Cake!

Zazzle is a website that couples can use to add more custom creativity to their wedding day. In my opinion, your wedding day should reflect you as a couple down to every last detail, even the stamps you use on your invitations or save-the-dates.

This site allows you to choose from many different stamp styles or even create your own custom stamp to use for your postage. While most couples spend time on everything from the envelope size to the calligraphy on the front, the stamp is usually the last thing, and by that time you’re at the mercy of whatever the post office has in stock.

Take a look at this site and hopefully it adds some inspiration and uniqueness to your own wedding day!

Unique wedding invitation

A friend of mine sent me this post about a unique wedding invitation. Whether it’s your style or not, what this shows is that weddings nowadays have become whatever you want them to be! Weddings are meant to showcase the couple and their story, not necessarily to follow etiquette rules that were set in place decades ago.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m a stickler for tradition and love that I always have a rule in place to follow whenever I need it, but as a planner I love that couples are now given creative license to truly make this THEIR day, which makes it fun for them, their guests, and me as their planner!
